Those oxides that behave as both acidic and basic oxides are called amphoteric oxides.
Examples: aluminium oxide (Al2O3)
Al2O3 + 6HCl → 2AlCl3 + 3H2O [ Basic ]
Al2O3 + 2NaOH → 2NaAlO2 + H2O [ Acidic ]
Zinc oxide (ZnO) is also an amphoteric oxide.
