NREGA 2005 is a law which is implemented by Government of India. It is referred to as 'Right to Work' because it guarantees 100 days of employment in a year to all those who are able to work. Following are its objectives:

(i)Under NREGA 2005, all those who are able to, and are in need of, work are guaranteed 100 days of employment in a year by the government.

(ii)If the government fails in its duty to provide employment, it will give unemployment allowances to the people.

(iii)The types of work that would in future help to increase the production from land will be given preference under the Act.

The objective of implementing the NREGA 2005 was to provide 100 days of guaranteed employment to those people in rural India who can work, and are in need of work. This Right to Work has been implemented in 200 districts. If the government is unable to provide this employment, then it has to give unemployment allowances to the people.
