The 3D-structure of organic compounds can be represented on paper by using certain convention e.g.,
(i) By using solid and dashed wedge formula, the 3D image of molecule from a twodimension picture can be perceived.
(ii) The solid wedge is used to indicate a bond projecting from the plane of paper towards the observer.
(iii) The dash wedge is used to project the bond below the plane of paper.
(iv) The bonds lying in the planes of paper are shown by normal lines while the carbon - hydrogen bond shown with solid wedge is intended to be front of this plane.
