Given: 

Line passing through the point (1, -2) and cutting off equal intercepts from the axes. 

To find: 

The equation of the line 

Explanation: 

Let the required equation of the line is:

\(\frac{x}{a}+\frac{y}{b} = 1\) 

Now, passes through (1, -2)

\(\frac{1}{2}-\frac{2}{a}=1\) 

⇒ a = -1

Hence, the required equation is:

\(\frac{x}{-1}+\frac{y}{-1}\) = 1

⇒ x + y + 1 = 0 

Hence, equation of required line is x + y + 1 = 0.
