The sudden, heritable change in genetic sequence of an individual is called mutation.
Steps of mutation breeding in agricultural crop:
i. Mutation is induced by chemical or physical means, for example, gamma rays.
ii. Selection of the plant for disease resistance.
iii. These plants are multiplied for breeding.
iv. The selected plants are hybridised.
v. Selection of disease resistant plants, followed by their testing and finally release of the variety.
