माना नाभि `S(2, -3)`, नियता `x+5=0` तथा `P(x, y)` जो परवलय पर स्थित है।
परवलय की परिभाषा से, `" "SP^(2)-PM^(2)`
`(x-2)^(2)+(y+3)^(2)=((x+5)/(sqrt(1)))`
`x^(2)-4x+4+y^(2)+6y+9=x^(2)+10x+25`
`y^(2)+6y=14x+12.`
