During a total solar eclipse, the disc of the moon almost completely covers the disc of the sun. If the distance of the Sun from the earth=`1.496xx10^(11)`m, diameter of the Sun `1.393xx10^(8)`m, then calculate the diameter of the moon.
A. `1.26xx10^(6)`m
B. `4.30xx10^(6)`m
C. `3.58xx10^(6)`m
D. `6.86xx10^(6)`m

Best answer
(c ) Given, for Sun
d`=1.393xx10^(9)`m
D`=1.496xx10^(11)`m
From the formula,
`therefore` `prop=(d)/(D)`
`=(1.393xx10^(9))/(1.496xx10^(11))`
`(1.393)/(1.496)xx10^(2)rad`
For moon, `prop=(1.393)/(1.496)xx10^(-2)rad`
`D=3.845xx10^(8)`
`therefore` `d=Dprop`
`3.845xx10^(8)(1.393)/(1.496)xx10^(-2)=3.58xx10^(8)`m
