For an observer looking out through the windows of a fast moving train, the near by objects appear to move in opposite direction to the train. While distant appear to be stationary

If the observer and the object are moving with velocities V1 and V2 respectively with reference to a laboratory frame the velocities of the object with respect to the observer is V2 – V1

Explanation:

 Both statements are true but reason is not correct explanation of assertion. Distant objects motion depends on the agle subtended at eye. It is illustrated in fig.
