Correct Answer - Option 3 : Attingal Rebellion

The Correct answer is Attingal Rebellion.

  •  Attingal Rebellion:
    •  It was an agitation by locals in the then princely State of Venad against the English East India Company in 1721 over the latter’s arrogant approach and unjust measures that they tried to implement in the land.
    • The immediate provocation for the revolt was the Easter Dinner given by the Company. In course of the celebrations a mistress of the company’s interpreter insulted a Muslim merchant by throwing colored water or powder to him.
    • When this was reported to the chief factor Mr. Gyfford, instead of punishing the real culprit, he ordered to punish the Muslim which provocated the Muslim and he was looking an opportunity to wreck the vengeance on the chief factor for this inhuman deed.
    • The situation was aggressed by the policy of British government to give costly presents to the Rani of Attingal to win more concessions.
    • The Attingal riot of 1721 resulted in the murder of 133 British Nationals.

    • Aftermath: The English and Rani entered into an agreement under which the Company was compensated for all the losses sustained during the attack on Anjengo and were also given the sole monopoly of trade in pepper as well as the right to erect factories in places of its choice.

  • Malabar Rebellion Remarkable event that saw people in southern Malabar, predominantly Muslims, wage an armed struggle against the British for nearly six months beginning August 1921.
  • Anchuthengu Rebellion: Unrest local people fought against the British in 1697 and the natives attacked the British factory at Anchuthengu, but it was a minor unrest and could create no major ripples in the political equation of the country.
  • Pookkottoor Rebellion: One of the battles that the Mappilas of Malabar fought against British army during 1921 in Malabar province of Northern Kerala. It is the part of Malabar Rebellion.
