Correct Answer - Option 3 : Visually impaired

A physically handicapped child on account of his physical impairment and defect in one or the other physical organ feels and exhibits his limitation for the required participation in normal activities and social as well as emotional adjustment.

  • Generally, we may classify the physically disabled or handicapped children into visually impaired, hearing impaired, speech handicapped, orthopedically impaired, and mentally retarded.

Visually impaired:

  • These children suffer from the impairment and defects to their eyes to such a degree that it makes them disabled in terms of their visual ability and perception.
  • This disability may present a continuum, ranging from poor and defective vision to no perception of light at all.
  • They are broadly classified into:
    • Totally blind and nearly blind children refer to those who have no vision and can learn via Braille or other non-visual media only.
    • Partially sightedness stands for those who have some visual problems due to which they have a partial perception of the objects seen. Myopia and Hypermetropia are parts of this type of blindness.
      • Myopia or nearsightedness means a person can clearly see the objects that are close but faces difficulty in looking at faraway objects as those far objects may seem blurry to him. Myopia can be corrected by using the concave lens.
      • Hypermetropia or farsightedness means a person can clearly see the faraway objects but will not able to see the closer ones. It can be corrected by using a convex lens.
  • These visual impairments can be from birth or can come after the birth because of malnutrition or other unfavorable conditions. With proper medical care, supervision, and support the blind children can be made specially trained in carrying out their daily routine works which will make them self-reliant to some extent.

Hence, it could be concluded that the term "myopia" is associated with visually impaired children.

Mentally retarded
  • An intellectual disability that is also known as mental retardation (M.R.) is the most common disability found among children with special needs.
  • It is considered a substantial limitation in present functioning.
  • It starts before the age of 18 and the intellectual functioning level of a child becomes below average.
Emotionally disturbed
  • It can be defined in terms of certain observable characteristics such as withdrawn behavior, tendency of fighting, and other aggressive behavior.
  • They may have a general problem in learning and concentrating which is not related to sensory defects.
Hearing-impaired
  • Those children who suffer from a wide range of hearing losses, are wholly or partially disabled in utilizing their hearing organs for getting and exchanging information with others.
