The correct answer is 1 and 3.

  • The Attorney General of India can participate in the proceedings of the Lok Sabha. He can be a member of any committee of Lok Sabha but cannot vote in Lok Sabha.

  • The Attorney General for India is that the chief legal advisor of the Indian government and maybe a primary lawyer within the Supreme Court of India.
  • They are the advocate from the government's side.
  • They are appointed by the President of India on the recommendation of the Union Cabinet under Article 76(1) of the Constitution and hold office during the pleasure of the President.
  • The Attorney General of India is K.K. Venugopal who joins the office on 30th June 2017.

  • Role of Attorney General of India-
    • Whichever legal matters are mentioned him by the President, he advises the Union government upon an equivalent.
    • President keeps on referring him to legal matters that suits his interest and Attorney General has got to advise on those too
    • Apart from what President refers to, he also performs the duties mentioned within the Constitution.
    • The three duties that are assigned to him by the President are:
  1. In any legal case where the government of India is said to, the Attorney General has got to appear within the Supreme Court on its behalf
  2. He has got to represent the Union Government in any reference made by the president to the Supreme Court under Article 143 of the Constitution.
  3. He also appears within the supreme court if any case is said to the govt of India.
