If the number of observation (n) is odd then median is (n+1)/2th term.

If the number of observation (n) is even then the median is average of nth and (n+1)th term.

 

Calculation:

Given: Median = 15

8, 11, 12, x + 6, 17, 18, 23 

n = 7,

since, n is odd, median should be 4^th term.

So, x + 6 should be median.

⇒ x + 6 = 15

⇒ x = 9
