Correct Answer - Option 1 : 8O17

Concept:

  • Alpha Particles: ( 2α ) Alpha particles are particles with the number of protons (atomic number) 2 and the number of neutron and proton (mass number)  4. It is similar to Helium Atom.
  • It is obtained from the radioactive decay process of a heavy nucleus.

Explanation:

7N14 bomb barded with α particles, and one proton is released and one another product is formed.

A proton (1) is having mass number 1 and atomic number 1.

Let another product is  a X b (Atomic number a, mass number b )

So, the process can be represented as

7N14  + 2α →  + 1 P 1 --  (1)

By law of conservation of mass, the atomic number and mass number should be equal to both sides of the equation.

Comparing mass number in both side of equation (1)

14 + 4 = b + 1

⇒ b = 14 + 4 - 1 = 17

Comparing atomic number

7 + 2 = a + 1

⇒ a = 7 +2 -1 = 8

So, mass number is 17 and atomic number is 8.

From the given options 8O17 is having a mass number 17 and the atomic number is 8.

So, the correct option is 17
