Correct Answer - Option 1 : ANF

The correct answer is ANF.

  • Atrial Natriuretic Peptide ( ANP ) is also known as Atrial Natriuretic Factor ( ANF ).
  • It is a type of hormone that is secreted from the cardiac atria.
  • The function of ANP includes causing a reduction in expanded extracellular fluid ( ECF ) volume by increasing renal sodium excretion.
  • ANP is synthesized and secreted by cardiac muscle cells in the walls of atria in the heart.
  • Volume receptors are present in these cells that respond to increased stretching of the arterial wall due to increased atrial blood volume.
  • De Bold in 1981 dicovered the natriuretic factor.

  • The gastric inhibitory polypeptide, a hormone secreted by cells of the intestinal mucosa that blocks the secretion of hydrochloric acid into the stomach.
  • Cholecystokinin (CCK) is a neuropeptide and gut hormone that regulates pancreatic enzyme secretion and gastrointestinal motility and acts as a satiety signal.
  • ADH is also called arginine vasopressin, a hormone made by the hypothalamus in the brain and stored in the posterior pituitary gland.

There are a total of three types of atrial natriuretic peptide receptors namely -

  1. NPR1
  2. NPR2
  3. NPR3
