A concert’s tickets cost Rs. 16 for adults and Rs. 8 for students. A total of 14 tickets worth Rs. 160 were sold. How many adult and student tickets were sold respectively?

Correct Answer - Option 4 : 6 and 8

Let x tickets of Rs.16 and y tickets of Rs.8 be sold.

∴ x + y = 14 ... (i)

and 16x + 8y = 160

i.e. 2x + y = 20 ... (ii)

Solving (i) and (ii),

∴ x + (x + y) = 20

∴ x + 14 = 20

 x = 6 and y = 8

Hence, ‘6 and 8’ is the correct answer.
