Burning of magnesium ribbon
1) Take about 3 cm long piece of magnesium ribbon.
2) Rub the magnesium ribbon with sand paper.
3) Hold it with a pair of tongs.
4) Burn it with a spirit lamp or burner.
5) Magnesium burns in oxygen by producing dazzling white flame and changes into white powder (magnesium oxide).

7) In this reaction magnesium and oxygen combine to form a new substance magnesium oxide.
