In the Kalinga war both sides suffered heavy losses. More than one lakh people died in the war. The Kalinga war resulted in the great loss of life and property. Ashoka was so horrified where saw the violence and bloodshed. This war was the most important event of Ashoka’s life. His heart was moved to see the misery of men. He decided not to fight any more wars, He realized that there is a need to be some other way to achieve or conquer. He started a new path which was known as Dhamma. He was the only king in the history of the world who gave up conquest after winning a war.
