The killing of the albatross was really a terrible act committed by the ancient Mariner. The killing of such an auspicious and innocent bird who was hailed as a ‘Christian Soul’ in God’s name was a crime. It defied natural justice. It seems that a senseless rush of blood overpowered the ancient Mariner. He killed the lucky bird that had brought a favourable south wind for the mariners.
