As we know that if two angles 'a' and 'b' are supplementary to each other, then their sum is equal to 180°.

This means,

a + b = 180°

Now,

as given in the question,

We have two angles- x° and (x + 40)° that are supplementary angles.

So,

we have,

\(x + x + 40 = 180\)

\(2x + 40 = 180\)

\(2x = 140\)

\(x= 70\)

Hence, the measure of angle x is 70°.
