Autotrophs Heterotrophs
(i) Autotrophs make their own food from simple inorganic materials. (i) They take ready-made food prepared by other organisms.
(ii) Use energy of sun to make food in the process of photosynthesis. (ii) Do not use light energy and there is no photosynthesis.
(iii) Green plants are autotrophs. They transform energy. (iii) Use chemical energy. Do not transform energy.
(iv) They are either photoautotroph or chemoautotrophs. (iv) They may be holozoic, parasitic or absorptive (saprotroph).
