In the circuit show in figure, after closing the switch S, match the following two columns.

Column I Column II
(a) Current through R1 (p) Will increase
(b) Current through R2 (q) Will decrease
(c) Potential difference across R1 (r) Will remain same
(d) Potential difference across R2

(s)Date insufficient

(A) a – p, b – q, c – r, d – s

(B) a – p, b – r, c – s, d – q

(C) a – p, b – r, c – s, d – q

Best answer

The correct option (D) a – q, b – p, c – q, d – p

Explanation:

When switch is close, some current now move through R3 hence current through R1 will decrease and potential difference across R1 will decrease.

Also effective current through R2 will increases because of presence of R3 in parallel to R1. As in parallel connection, resistance decreases, hence current will increase.

∴ current through R2 will increase potential difference R2 will also increase.

∴ a → q

c → q

b → p

d → p.
