(d) Sugar is transported in phloem as non-reducing sugar
K+ is the most abundant cation in phloem sap. Sugar is transported by phloem and these sugars are transported to non-photosynthetic parts of the plant, such as the roots, or into storage structures, such as tubers or bulbs.
Phloem transport occurs downward and therefore can take advantage of gravity particularly at night.
