1. Total number of teams in upper half = N/2

= 14/2

= 7

Total number of teams in Lower Half = N/2

= 14/2

=7

Therefore, the number of Byes = in the multiples of 2 will be:

16 - 14 = 2

Thus, the total number of matches will be equal to = N - 1

= 14 - 1

= 13

Number of the total rounds to be conducted = 6

2. In staircase method, fixtures are made just like a ladder or staircase. This method is the easiest method because no bye is given to any team and there is no need of the stipulation of odd or even number of teams.

Total Matches = \(\frac{n(n -1)}{2}\)

\(=\frac{7(7 -1)}{2}\)

\(= \frac {7\times 6}2\)

= 21 matches

3.

i) When the number of teams (n) is odd, the number of matches by cyclic method is calculated as:

Number of matches = \(\frac{n(n - 1)}2\)

ii) Substituting n = 5,

Number of matches = 5(5-1)/2 = 10

iii) In cyclic method, if the number of teams is odd, the number of rounds are equal to number of teams.

iv) Hence, there will be five rounds.

v) In each round, one team will get a bye and the other matches will be decided in cyclic manner.
