A card is drawn at random from a well shuffled pack of 52 playing cards. Find the probability that the card drawn is a spade.

Let A be the event that a card selected at random is a spade. In given example, n(S) = 52 

 ∴ n(A) = 13

∴ P(A) = n(A) / n(S) = 13 / 52 = 1 / 4
