Copper I compounds are white and diamagnetic but copper II compounds are coloured and paramagnetic. Why?

In copper I ion all orbitals are completely filled so its compounds are white and diamagnetic. The electronic configuration of copper II ion is 1s22s22p63s23p63d9 . it has one unpaired electron so it is paramagnetic and forms blue coloured compounds.
