A ball is dropped vertically from a height d above the ground. It hits the ground and bounces up vertically to a height d/2. Neglecting the subsequent motion and the air resistance, how its velocity v varies with the height h above the ground?

Correct Answer is: (a)

v is negative when the ball is falling and positive when it bounces up. Also, v = - (2g(d - h)) for downward motion and v = (g(d - 2h)) for upward motion.
