A bomb is dropped from an aircraft when it is directly above a target at a height of 1000 m. The aircraft is moving with a velocity of 500 km/hr. will the bomb hit the target ? If not, by how much distance will the bomb miss the target?

Horizontal velocity of the bomb = velocity of the aircraft.

or, v = 500 km/h = (500 x 1000/60 x 60) = 1250/9 ms-1

Therefor, distance between the bomb and the target = vt = (1250/9 x 100/7m) 

= 1984 m = 1.984 km.
