Determine whether the given values are solutions of the given equation or not:

x2 – √2x – 4 = 0, x = -√2, x = -2√2

Here we have,

LHS = x2 – √2x – 4

Substituting x = -√2 in LHS, we get

(-√2)− √2(-√2) – 4

⇒ 4 + 2 – 4 = 2 ≠ RHS

⇒ LHS ≠ RHS

Thus, x = -√2 is a solution of the given equation.

Similarly,

Substituting x = −2√2 in LHS, we get

(-2√2)− √2(-2√2) – 4

⇒ 8 + 4 – 4 = 8 ≠ RHS

⇒ LHS ≠ RHS

Thus, x = −2√2 is not a solution of the given equation.
