Given,

kx2 + 6x + 1 = 0

It’s of the form of ax+ bx + c = 0

Where, a =k, b = 6, c = 1

For the given quadratic equation to have real roots D = b– 4ac > 0

D = (6)2 – 4(1)(k) > 0

⇒ 36 – 4k > 0

⇒ 4k < 36

⇒ k < 9

The value of k should be lesser than 9 to have real and distinct roots.
