Reference to Context – These lines have been taken from Indian born English playwright Abhijit Sircar’s famous play ‘The Phoenix’. This is a one-act play which has brought him award from British Council. These lines are spoken by Daddy, an another character of this play. When he talks to Manab. In these lines Manab and Daddy are discussing about going to phoenix.
Explanation – Daddy asks Manab why he is not going to phoenix. For whom he is staying behind in the basement. He is living a lonely and state life. What is the reason behind it? Daddy tells him that if Manab wants to exist what is the purpose and use of his existence. This existence of life is senseless and worthless. Daddy insists on Manab that he thinks of the future generation. He should go to phoenix for the sake of the new society. They both have seen the nature’s beauty and the future generation has also the similar right. These two lines of the dialogue are full of the message of the life. There is a kind of hope. These lines also describe the good and optimistic attitude of the speaker.
Critical Commentary – These lines are very simple and easy but these convey a nice message for the future generation. The selection of the words are from the day to day conversation of the man. These are unique lines that tell optimistic character of the speaker.
सन्दर्भ और प्रसंग-यह पंक्तियाँ भारत में जन्मे अंग्रेजी के नाटककार अभिजीत सरकार के प्रसिद्ध नाटक ‘द फीनिक्स’ से ली गई है। यह एक अंक का नाटक है जिसने उसे ब्रिटिश काउन्सिल से पुरस्कार दिलवाया था। यह पंक्तियाँ डैडी नामक एक दूसरे पात्र के द्वारा बोली जा रही हैं जब वह मानब से बात करता है। इन पंक्तियों में मानब और डैडी फीनिक्स में जाने को लेकर चर्चा कर रहे हैं। व्याख्या-डैडी मानब से पूछते हैं कि वह क्यों नहीं फीनिक्स जा रहा है। वह किसके लिए इस तलघर रुक रहा है। वह एकाकी और बासी जीवन जी रहा है। इसके पीछे क्या कारण है? डैडी उससे कहते हैं कि यदि मानब विद्यमान रहना चाहता है तो उसके अस्तित्व का उद्देश्य और उपयोग क्या है? जीवन का यह अस्तित्व बेकार और बिना कीमत का है।
डैडी मानब पर जोर डालते हैं कि वह भावी पीढ़ी के बारे में सोचता है। उसे नवीन समाज की रक्षा हेतु फीनिक्स जाना चाहिए। उन दोनों ने प्रकृति की सुन्दरता को देखा है और भावी पीढ़ी को भी यही अधिकार है। संवाद की यह दो पंक्तियाँ जीवन के सन्देश से भरी हैं। इसमें एक प्रकार की उम्मीद है। यह पंक्तियाँ वक्ता के अच्छे और आशावादी दृष्टिकोण को वर्णित करती हैं। आलोचनात्मक टिप्पणी-यह पंक्तियाँ सरल और सादी हैं परन्तु यह भावी पीढ़ी का एक सुन्दर उदाहरण देती हैं। मानव के दैनिक जीवन से शब्दों का चयन किया गया है। यह विशिष्ट पंक्तियाँ वक्ता के आशावादी चरित्र के बारे में बताती हैं।
