The hydrogen ion concentration of a fruit juice is 3.3 × 10-2 M. What is the pH of the juice? Is it acidic or basic?

[H+] = 3.3 × 10-2 M

Formula:

pH = -log[H+]

pH = -log[3.3 × 10-2]

= -[log 3.3 + log 10-2]

= -[0.5185 – 2 log10 10]

= -0.5185 + 2 log10 10 [log10 10 = 1]

= -0.5185 + 2

pH = 1.4815

Since pH is less than 7, the solution is acidic.
