Best answer
(i) Here, rate of increase per annum ` r = 5%`
Population in year`2003, A = 54000`
Let population in `2001` is `x`.Then, `54000 = x(1+5/100)^2`
`54000 = x**(21/20)**(21/20)`
`x = (54000**400)/441 ~= 48980`

(ii)Population in `2005, A_P = 54000(1+5/100)^2`
`A_P = 54000**(21/20)**(21/20) = 59535`
