(a) If you want to help someone with disability, ask if he/she needs it and listen to any instruction the person may want to give.

(b) Be considerate of the extra time it might take a person with a disability to get things done.

(c) Treat adults accordingly.

(d) Call a person by his/her first name only when you extend this familiarity to everyone present.

(e) Don't patronize people who use wheelchairs by patting them on the head.

(f) Relax, don't be embarrassed if you happen to use common expressions that seem to relate to the person's disability such as "see you later" or "I have got to run".

(g) When planning events involving persons with disabilities, consider their needs ahead of time. If there is a potential barrier, like a flight of stairs, narrow door, reach out and discuss the situation with them in advance.
