X and Y are wires carrying electric currents which are perpendicular to the page and A, B and C are the three compasses as shown in figure. Which of the following statements is correct regarding magnitude and direction of current ?

(A) Direction of current is same and its magnitude is larger in X than in Y.

(B) Direction of current is opposite and magnitude is smaller in X than in Y.

(C) Direction of current is opposite and Its magnitude is larger in X than in Y

Best answer

Correct option  (A) Direction of current is same and its magnitude is larger in X than in Y.

Explanation:

The needles of the plotting compasses show that both conduct current into the page with different magnitudes. At A and B, direction of magnetic field is same, hence current in X is larger than in Y.
