x(-2b) = – 2b(a + b)
⇒ x = (a + b)
Put this value of ‘x’ in eq (1) we get
(a – b) (a + b) + (a + b)y = a2 – 2ab – b2
a2 – b2 + (a + b)y = a2 – 2ab – b2
⇒ y = \(\frac{-2ab}{a+b}\)
∴ Solution to given pair of linear equations x = a + b, y = \(\frac{-2ab}{a+b}\)
