Best answer

length of a vertical pole and length of its shadow are in direct proportion.

⇒ \(\frac{x_1}{y_1}= \frac{x_2}{y_2}\)

i) x1 = 5.6

y1 = 3.2

x2 = 10.5

y2 = ?

⇒ y2\(\frac{x_2 \,\times\,y_1}{x_1}\) = \(\frac{10.5 \,\times\,3.2}{5.6}\) = 6 m

∴The length of the shadow = 6 cm

ii) x1 = 5.6

y1 = 3.2

x2 = ?

y2 = 5

⇒ \(\frac{x_1}{y_1}= \frac{x_2}{y_2}\)

x2\(\frac{x_1 \,\times\,y_2}{y_1}\)  = \(\frac{5.6 \,\times\,5}{3.2}\) = \(\frac{35}4\) = 8.75 m .

∴ x2 = 8.75
