Suhana sells a sofa set for ₹9600 making a profit of 20%. What is the C.P. of the sofa set?

Let the CP be ₹100 

Profit (20%) = ₹ 20 

Therefore, SP = ₹ (100 + 20) = ₹ 120 

If SP is ₹ 120, CP = ₹ 100 

If SP is ₹ 9600, CP = 100/120 × 9600 = ₹ 8000 

An alternate method to solve the same example is:

Profit = 20% of CP 

SP = CP + Profit 

So, 9600 = CP + 20% of CP
